Deputy PM attends the RPDNA organised by SoDMA in Mogadishu

The Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E Salah Ahmed Jama and the Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation H.E Ali Yusuf Ali Hosh attended the Rapid Post Disaster Needs Assessment Conference organised by the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA).  The Rapid Post Disaster Needs Assessment Report (R-PDNA) was opened by the Commissioner of SoDMA, he stated that “Today, we unveil the findings of the R-PDNA for Somalia, conducted in the wake of the devastating Deyr floods of 2023.”  The Commissioner further stated that “This report, is a collaborative effort between the Government of Somalia, the UN in Somalia, the WorldBank , and the EU in Somalia.” The Deputy DSRSG, George Conway noted that the report will inform recovery efforts of all stakeholders in Somalia, stating that ” This result of this PDNA feeds into other national planning processes, in order to link immediate recovery needs with longer term plans and investment priorities”. He further stated that, “I would like to thank the Federal Government’s disaster management agency, SoDMA, for their leadership in this PDNA process; in addition to the leadership demonstrated in the emergency responses throughout the Deyr and recent Gu flooding.”

Federal Government of Somalia’s Weekly Briefing Mogadishu, Wednesday, 12th June, 2024  1- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who was speaking to the Somali community in Norway in Oslo, gave a briefing on the political situation, the war against the Kharijites Al Shabab, constitutional issues and the reconstruction of the country.  2- The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, held a meeting in Oslo with the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Norway, Mr. Jonas Gahr Støre, as they discussed the strengthening of cooperation between the two countries.  3- The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, His Excellency Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Norway, Jonas Gahr Støre, jointly chaired the International Peace Forum, Oslo Forum, which opened in Oslo.   4- The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, held a meeting with the King of Norway, King Harald V, and Crown Prince Haakon Magnus at the royal palace in Oslo.   5- Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre said that the Somali government is uniting all the different trainings of the Armed Forces that are being helped by our friendly governments.   6- The Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia, Mr. Salah Ahmed Jama, opened a meeting to present a complete report on the assessment of the damage caused by the floods and floods of El Niño last year.   7- The Speaker of the People’s Assembly of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, H.E. Houngbo.   11- The Minister of Internal Security of Somalia, Mr. Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartag) participated in an event to unveil the reconstruction and modernization of the Command of the Road Security/Safety Police.   12- The Somali Cabinet has passed provisions related to the revision of the Regulations on Identification and Public Registration and a Memorandum of Understanding on Political Cooperation between the countries of Somalia and Norway.   13- Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation of Somalia H.E. Fardowsa Osman Egal met with the Italian Ambassador to Somalia, Pier Mario Dacco’ Coppi.   14- The Minister of Finance of Somalia, Mr. Bihi Iman Ige chaired the meeting of the Steering Committee of the Financial Management System, Resources and the members of donors in cooperation with the Government of Somalia.   15- The Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs of Somalia Mr. Mukhtar Robow Ali Abu Mansoor had a meeting with the Minister of Hajj and Umrah of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Mr. Tawfiq Binu Fawsaan.   16- The Minister of Planning of Somalia, Mr. Mohamud Abdirahman Sheikh Farah (Beenebeene), welcomed the resumption of development projects in Puntland State.   17- The Minister of Communications of Somalia, Mr. Mohamed Aden Macalin Ali and the head of the World Bank in Somalia, Kristina Svensson, jointly opened a conference to strengthen the East African Digital Network Project in Nairobi.   18- The Minister of Internal Affairs of Somalia and the Chairman of the Commemoration Committee for Independence Days on June 26 and July 1, Mr. Ali Yusuf Ali-Hoosh, chaired a meeting of committee members to discuss preparations for the commemoration of national days.  19- The Ministry of Internal Security of Somalia has called rival warring clans in North of Galgudud to stop the fighting and initiate peace talks.   20- The Somali National Army has found more dead bodies of Kharijites Al Shabab who have been badly defeated in Eldheer district of Galgaduud region. 21- The National Prosecutor’s Office has referred 19 accused persons to the Banadir Regional Court for spreading hatred, incitement and other anti-social acts on social media.

Somalia takes new step towards aviation development, says director of SCAA

The Director General of the Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA), H.E . Ahmed Macallin Hassan has announced a new step taken by Somalia towards aviation development.  The Director made the announcement while providing an update to experts from the East African Community’s Civil Aviation Safety and Security Oversight Agency (EAC-CASSOA).  The officials from EAC-CASSOA are in Mogadishu for over a week with the objective of assessing and evaluating the readiness of the SCAA to undergo an audit by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).   Director Ahmed stated that if the country passes the ICAO audit, it would be a significant achievement and a new milestone for the nation, as the national civil aviation system has not previously undergone such an audit.  He added that the experts from EAC-CASSOA are currently assisting in evaluating the audit readiness, identifying deficiencies, and addressing issues that need improvement before the ICAO audit.  The Director stated that the experts from EAC-CASSOA will issue a report on their findings and evaluations of the SCAA departments, outlining how Somalia can achieve a successful outcome in the ICAO audit regarding aviation safety and security.

Prime Minister Inspects Road Connecting Mogadishu and Jowhar

Mogadishu, Somalia – The Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Hamsa Abdi Barre, recently visited Balcad to oversee the progress of the third phase of the road connecting Mogadishu and Jowhar. This critical infrastructure project aims to enhance transportation, promote economic development, and improve basic services in the region.   During his visit, Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Bare expressed gratitude to the Government of Qatar for funding this essential project. He also commended the engineers and workers who have dedicated their efforts to constructing the road. Their commitment, often at personal risk, highlights the importance of this infrastructure for Somalia’s future.    The road will serve as a vital link for businesses, facilitating the movement of goods and services between Mogadishu and Jowhar. Improved connectivity is expected to boost trade and economic activity. By providing a well-maintained road network, travel time between the two cities will be significantly reduced, benefiting both commuters and commercial transport.    Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Bare emphasized that Somalia has made significant strides in countering terrorism, creating an environment conducive to investment. To attract further investment, the country must continue developing crucial infrastructure, including roads and electricity.    The road project comprises three phases:Mogadishu-Afgoye: Already completed, this section connects Mogadishu to Afgoye. Mogadishu-Balcad: Also completed, this phase links Mogadishu to Balcad. Balcad-Jowhar:   The ongoing third phase aims to connect Balcad to Jowhar, further improving regional connectivity. Accompanied by members of the Council of Ministers, Army Commanders, the Governor of Banadir Region, and the Ambassador of the Government of Qatar, Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Bare’s inspection underscores the importance of this infrastructure project for Somalia’s development.

Somali Minister of Foreign Affairs Addresses China-Arab Forum in Beijing

          Mogadishu, Somalia –Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ahmed Macallin Fiqi, delivered a keynote speech at the 10th meeting of the China-Arab Forum held in Beijing.    Minister Fiqi emphasized the importance of fostering economic ties between Somalia, China, and Arab countries. He welcomed companies from these regions to explore investment opportunities in Somalia’s burgeoning market.
