  Somalia’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Ambassador Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, highlighted the severe impacts of climate change on her country and called for immediate international support to address the crisis in a powerful address at the high-level Climate Mobility Summit in New York City,.  Ambassador Al-Makhzoumi painted a stark picture of the current climate crisis in Somalia, where prolonged droughts and devastating floods have displaced over 4 million people internally. She warned that without urgent intervention, this number could rise to over 7 million by 2050.  The minister emphasized that these climate-induced displacements are not just statistics but represent real human suffering and loss. “Somalia is on the front lines of the climate crisis,” she stated. “Our people are enduring unimaginable hardships due to extreme weather events that are becoming more frequent and severe. Somali Prime Minister inaugurates National Blood Bank

  Mogadishu ( Baidao Star) Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre has officially inaugurated the fully operational National Blood Bank in Mogadishu on Sunday, addressed the significance of availability and accessing sufficient blood services for the Somali people.   He said that the government is committed to improving the health and well-being of all Somalis, and that the blood bank is a major milestone in their efforts to provide safe and reliable blood products to those in need. He registered and donated blood, with the national blood registry set to save lives across Somalia. The blood bank, which is located at Banadir Hospital, has a capacity to store 10,000 units of donated blood at any given time.  It is equipped with state-of-the-art technology for screening, preparation, and secure storage of blood and blood products to ensure safety and quality. The Prime Minister thanked the government of the Saudi Arabic kingdom for its role in implementing this health sector.

  The Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) has issued a press release condemning General Birhanu Jula, the head of the Ethiopian army, who recently said that the ONLF was created by the Egyptian government to attack Ethiopia.  The commander of the Ethiopian army, who did not present evidence to prove his claim, said on the 8th of this month that Egypt created ONLF, FANO, Tigray and other organizations, which he met with great condemnation.  This man who spoke in Addis Ababa also said that Egypt is now refusing to allow Ethiopia access to the sea. Prime Minister Barre accused Puntland leaders of blocking federal projects in the region and refusing to allow the federal government to monitor the implementation of development initiatives. He criticized the Puntland administration for hindering cooperation between regional and federal institutions, which he said is crucial for ensuring the effective delivery of international projects to the people. “The Puntland government is misleading its people and creating confusion to divert them from the real issues,” Barre said. He stressed the importance of allowing the people of Puntland access to the development projects they are entitled to, emphasizing that federal oversight is necessary for accountability and transparency. Last week, Deputy Minister of Finance Abdiqafar Elmi Hange confirmed that the federal government disbursed $6 million to Puntland. The Prime Minister praised these young people for their bravery, describing them as national heroes and role models for Somali youth. He also said that the government always stands by the youths who stand for the defense and salvation of the society, and he encouraged them to continue their efforts. “You have shown courage in a difficult time and to help your young brothers who were in a difficult situation. You risked your lives and worked for the people.  In fact, the work they have done has attracted the attention of the entire Somali nation. National Security Adviser: “New Operation Provides Short-Term Support to Somali Armed Forces”

Mogadishu (BAIDAO STAR) – Mr. Hussein Macalin, the National Security Adviser, recently announced that the ATMIS mission will conclude by the end of this year.  A new mission is in the works, with its duration to be determined by the government. In a private interview with the National Media, Mr. Hussein Ma’alin revealed that nine thousand soldiers who were part of the ATMIS operation have already left the country, and the remaining troops will depart by the end of December. “The African Union forces have been active in Somalia since 2007, starting with the AMISOM mission, which concluded in 2022.  ATMIS followed, and it is now set to end on December 31,” stated the National Security Adviser. The upcoming mission, known as AUSSOM, responds to a request from the Somali government It will receive short-term support from the National Army, with a limited number of troops involved. Mr. Hussein emphasized that this operation differs from its predecessors.  The collaboration between the two armies aims to ensure a smoother transition, allowing skills and resources to continue benefiting the Armed Forces. Importantly, the participants in AUSSOM operate independently of the Somali government.  Once the new agreement is approved, specific arrangements will be made with the participating governments. During the African Union meeting that endorsed this mission, Egypt and Djibouti expressed keen interest in playing a significant role.  Other nations are also considering involvement, pending approval by the Security Council. Mr. Hussein concluded his remarks, underscoring the importance of this mission for Somalia’s security and stability.
